In the context of the children's health strategy of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) the improvement of medicinal products suitable for children was presented as a goal and implemented in the Working Committee 6 of the Children's Health Dialogue (Kindergesundheitsdialog).

In order to establish a network for the research of medicinal products suitable for children and adolescents in Austria and also to create the necessary synergy effects by linking up with EU networks in the medium-term, the project team "OKIDS" developed a model for a public-private partnership which includes the Federal Ministry of Health, the Austrian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (Pharmig) and the industry as well as the mutual health objectives of the Pharma framework agreement and the Austrian Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine (ÖGKJ) and also the respective universities and Co-ordination Centres for Clinical Studies.
